College Counseling

Forging the Path to Your Next Chapter

At the International School of Port of Spain (ISPS), we strive to prepare our and their families not just for college, but for the challenges and opportunities of life beyond it. Families are guided with care — learning to navigate the college admissions journey while developing the confidence, resilience, and academic strength needed to thrive in the years ahead.

Two students, a smiling young woman and a young man, are sitting at a desk in a classroom setting. The classroom appears to have colorful decorations and educational materials on the walls.

College Guidance Programme

The College Guidance Programme at ISPS is designed to support students and families as they navigate the pathway to higher education. It is a guidance-based model, not a placement service. This means that students and parents take the lead in their journey, while our counselors provide direction, resources, and support at every stage.

The programme focuses on several key areas:

  • Academic
  • Testing
  • Non-Academic Development
  • Application Systems
  • Related Considerations such as financial grants, visas, and more

A Partnership with You

The ISPS College Guidance Programme is designed to help students find the right “MATCH” with a university—an environment where they can thrive academically, socially, and personally. When the fit is right, students are more likely to flourish and reach their full potential.

The college admissions process is increasingly competitive, with universities evaluating not only academic achievement but also leadership, personal growth, involvement, and meaningful non-academic experiences. The programme supports students in exploring their interests, developing their strengths, and building a well-rounded profile that reflects who they are and what they value.

A Four-Year Process

Throughout the university application process, students are supported through the school’s counselling programme, where consistent guidance, approachability, and reassurance help make what can be a stressful experience feel more manageable and supported.

Bridge to College

The College Counseling Office maintains an open line of communication with both students and parents, sending out important updates and guidance via email. If you're in your junior or senior year, your parents can anticipate monthly email updates during the academic term.
