Dear Parents & Guardians,

I trust that your family has begun to settle into the structure and routine of online school. Katie and I have three children of our own, and we had an abrupt transition out of our summer-time routine and went right into online schooling. Meanwhile, just last week we received special exemption to travel to Trinidad. We are grateful for this opportunity and look forward to completing our quarantine and moving into our home which is located near ISPS.

This has been an exciting transition for our family and we are happy to be here in Trinidad.

I’ll now share information about the behind the scenes work that has been going on to maximize the online learning experience for all.

Updates to the Online Schedule

We are guided by our foundational beliefs about teaching and learning. Teachers have been examining best practices for online learning as recommended by International Baccalaureate (IB), College Board (AP), and other organizations and schools around the world. The IB recommends that we continue to maintain a strong emphasis on inquiry-based learning, collaboration, and assessment for learning. The College Board (AP) recommends that we maintain their continuous support and feedback cycle. This includes planning, teaching, practicing, assessing, getting feedback and giving feedback.

It goes without saying, this is a marathon and not a sprint, therefore the online learning schedule must be sustainable for the duration of the semester, or possibly even longer. We are committed to integrating the techniques that have been shown to work best for online learning.

Best Practices for Online Scheduling:

  • Later morning start time
  • 2-3 scheduled breaks
  • 1 scheduled office hour
  • Common lunch start time for ES/MS/HS
