Where We are in Place and Time: Future Fossils
Like nature, the work of an artist can reveal what life was like long ago.
Grade 4 students created hand-built clay slab vessels that used everyday modern objects as impressions, or fossils, on the walls of their work. In order to select their impression object they had to imagine archaeologists in the year 3023 uncovering their pottery and interpreting what life was like in 2023. What kinds of objects could they find around the house that could tell the story of what life was like for them as 4th graders in Trinidad in current times? Students chose a variety of “fossils” and used them to create patterns on the interior and exterior of their slab vessels.
