Guidance Class - Second Step

This week the students started lessons from Second Step which is a compilation of research-based, teacher-informed, and classroom-tested programs that promote the social-emotional development, safety, and well-being of children.

The students practiced learning-to-learn skills that are essential in every classroom setting! This includes what it means to be a good listener: Ears listening, Eyes watching, Voices quiet and Body still.

Pk3/4 met Puppy this week! He’s a class helper that makes an appearance to teach and reinforce rules. He’s also a lot of fun!

Building on empathy:

Roses and Thorns: I love to ask each student to share a rose and a thorn with the class! A rose is something positive, fun or exciting they did recently or are looking forward to. A thorn is something that was disappointing, difficult or wasn’t so great. It’s a great way to get them to reflect and share with each other; fostering a sense of empathy and togetherness. Parents, feel free to ask what their rose and thorns were too!
