Roles in Production

Roles in Production

Students in HS Drama 1 have been learning about the many roles required to run a production. In December, they had on-the-job training as the Stage Crew, Ushers, and Props Manager for the ES Production of Space Pirates!  Last Friday, they joined high school music students on a backstage tour of Queen’s Hall, one of Port of Spain’s state-of-the-art performance venues. Students met some key players at the venue and got some tutorials in lighting and sound as well as an opportunity to operate the fly system at Queen’s Hall.

The Statement of Inquiry for the unit is: Systems are key to the composition, craft, and creation which allow for a successful production to take place. The students learn about different career paths in the performing arts and gain experience playing those roles in our community. By studying and participating in the systems involved in putting on a production, they will be able to develop their collaboration skills as well as a variety of communication skills required of performers and technicians alike.
