Welcome to the end of our second week of Online Learning. I hope all went smoothly. I am delighted to announce that the Service Learning Program kick started last week. I met with all HS children to present the concept to them. This week they met with their Project Leaders to begin the brainstorming sessions. Students got their voices heard on what matters in their community and problems that should be addressed. COVID-19 is taking precedent. Many mentioned that we need to help those who are in need, from homeless people, to old people in homes, to students in local schools. In light of the fact that Saturday 5th is the International Day of Charity, I think this is very pertinent to our students in these times.
To quote the website, in empowering our students to make a difference:
Our students will be encouraged to put others before themselves from a young age, ISPS students from Pre-kindergarten to grade twelve take part in service learning opportunities in school, in their community, and in regional and global communities. They find meaning in benefiting others when they brainstorm, research, interview, plan activities, build connections, and contribute to communities’ areas of need.
It is exciting to hear their opinions and see the seeds already being planted.
Please continue to chat with your children about this initiative. ES had their first SL meeting last Friday and I look forward to joining their classes next week. As mentioned last week, MS is a little more challenging due to the nature of the 'blocks of time' and the restrictions of Covid-19. But we will be addressing this in the coming weeks with our MS students.
Please communicate with me if you have any concerns, questions or suggestions.
Have a great weekend.
