Depicting the Human Figure with Value

From the beginning of the school year students of Grade 5 have participated in many figure drawing exercises like observational drawing, gesture drawing, dynamic figure drawing, and proportion exercises. Students will synthesize their learnings from these exercises with their latest task, value exploration, to create a figure drawing in pastel as their quarter 1 summative. 

Students discussed the element of art, value, and commented that many of them were already familiar with what a value scale is and different shading methods. Using previous knowledge of tints, hues, and shades from Grade 4, they practiced making their own value scales with pastels.
