Introduction to Coordinate Planes

Introduction to Coordinate Planes

Grade 6s have been exploring the coordinate plane. They have plotted points using coordinates and ventured to  create a pictures using plane shapes on a coordinate plane.

While some did an amazing job others struggled with accuracy and following instructions. The skills developed as we continue into geometry; area, perimeter and  surface area, are crucial to further math courses. The motor skills and spatial skills used in this area of math may take some of them time to develop but they are essential.

Also, as we continue to build the organisational skills of our new middle schoolers, I urge parents to continually check-in on the quality of work submitted on google classroom. I need your help please, I know we could do this as a team.

Some students were very excited to get positive feedback from family members and one child in particular wanted to explore the pythagoras' theorem as she was not just satisfied with finding the length of horizontal and vertical lines on the coordinate plane.

In higher grades they will continue using graphs as they explore linear and nonlinear functions.
