The world is facing many challenges today, and ‘climate change’ continues to be one of the most pressing ones. The Grade 9 Individual & Societies students have just started their Unit on Environmental Challenges. One of the most basic academic content that is needed before deeper exploration of this topic is the need for a clear understanding of what causes ‘global warming’ and its impact on man and the environment.
Priyanka Lalla of Grade 10 and our very own ISPS student, is also a UNICEF Youth Ambassador and was invited by Mrs. Sharpe to talk to grade 9 I&S students about her work and motivational talks, at the international level, related to environmental issues. With COP 28 about to kick off in Dubai, the students learnt about the purpose of the annual Conference as well as listening to the speeches of global leaders on the international stage. I&S is a living subject and when students get the opportunity to connect real-world activities and conferences to what they are learning in class, learning becomes more authentic, deeper and long-term.
