Kindergarten students worked in small groups to use a math balance to determine different number combinations between 10 and 100. In this differentiated activity, students working with numbers within 100 also wrote a number sentence to match each number combination they discovered.
Students used Unifix® Cubes to demonstrate their understanding of teen numbers as 10 and more. They built number towers with the cubes and compared the height of each tower to prove that each successive number is “one more”. Students explained their thinking to each other to arrive at a common understanding.
