What is the College Board? 

The College Board is a not-for-profit organization located in the United States of America. It was founded over 100 years ago. It was developed with the mission of expanding access to higher education and today it has a membership of well over 6,000 schools. The International School of Port of Spain has partnered with the College Board to offer rigorous curricula as well as standardized tests. 

What is the Advanced Placement (AP) Program?  

The College Board Advanced Placement Program offers high school students the chance to participate in college-level classes, designed to challenge students and prepare them for the demands of college-level tasks. In addition, the externally moderated examinations provide students with an opportunity to benchmark themselves alongside high schoolers.

What other examinations are offered by The College Board? 

PSAT - The PSAT is a fee-based standardized test that provides students with the opportunity to practice for the SAT. There are other forms of the PSAT including the PSAT-10 and the PSAT 8/9. 

SAT - The SAT is a fee-based standardized test for college admissions in the United States. SAT covers writing, reading, and mathematics and scores range from 400 to 1600, with each of the two sections; evidenced-based reading/writing and mathematics worth up to 800 points. Students have the option to take the test during their junior or senior year of high school.    


What are the credit hours for AP courses?

Most AP subjects are one-credit courses. However, AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP Studio Art and AP Chemistry count for 1.5 credits.

What are the graduation requirements at ISPS? 

In order to obtain a High School Diploma from ISPS, students must earn a minimum of 26 credits while enrolled in grades 9-12. Of these, 16 must be from the core academic areas of English, Maths, Science, Social Science and Modern Languages. In addition, students must earn 1.5 credits in PHE and at least 1 in the Arts. Electives and/or additional academic credits make up the required 26 credits. 

Students are accepted into AP Courses upon recommendation from teachers together with a minimum grade of “B” in prerequisite courses.
