ELEMENTARY TEACHER

Job Summary:

We are currently recruiting for an Elementary Teacher to join our outstanding faculty of teachers for the next school year. The right candidate will have experience in creating a welcoming classroom environment and closing achievement gaps. They will be required to develop engaging and innovative lessons that allow our students to grow academically, socially and emotionally. They will also believe in collaboration and promote understanding and communication in a diverse learning and cultural environment.

Responsibilities:
All Teachers

  • Use current pedagogical practices in the classroom.
  • Planning weekly and collaborating with other teachers
  • Reflect on lessons weekly
  • Assess all subject areas
  • Attend grade level, full-staff and weekly meetings
  • Attend meetings to discuss student’s modified program
  • Attend school activities (e.g., walk-a-thon, swimming gala, family day)
  • Communicate with parents on a weekly basis (newsletter, email)
  • Duties (morning, lunch, afternoon, homework)
  • Participate in calendar events
  • May be asked to be a representative for a committee
    • Back-to-School Night (Sept.)
    • International Week (Oct.)
    • ES Holiday Play (Dec)
    • Carnival (Feb/March)
    • Sports Day (Feb.)
    • Science Fair (May)
  • Enter grades into PowerSchool weekly
  • Submit reports on time
  • Submit Daily Attendance on time

  • Prepare PYP Units
  • Attend staff events
  • Support other schools’ (high/middle) events
  • Be on time for work – 7:15 am
  • General interest in the development of ISPS
  • Familiar with all school documents (e.g., student files, student/teacher handbook, emergency book)
  • Communicate with all community members in a timely manner

  • Provide workshops for teachers after attending conferences
  • Attend specific workshops for new programs (PYP, Love and Logic, 6 Traits, Junior Great Books

  • Keep abreast in the field (for example, read journals)

  • Monitor Accelerated Reading and Accelerated Mathematics for students
  • Participate in events for AR and AM
  • Identify students for RISS/MISS Program and tutor students from 7:15 – 7:30 am
  • Create projects in all areas for students
  • End of term tests/weekly tests (Gr.1-5)
  • Prepare students for ERB Writing Test

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent from an accredited university, with a specialization in early childhood education
  • Current/valid registration with the Ministry of Education or possesses a valid teaching certificate from abroad, would be an asset
  • Computer literate
  • At least two years of recent, full time classroom teaching experience
  • Experience teaching the IB PYP and/or MYP curriculum would be an asset
  • Working knowledge of Skyward, PowerSchool and/or Google Classroom
  • Experience in Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL), Project-Based Learning (PBL) and 21st Century Education would be an asset
