Recruitment Policy

Our recruitment policy is to recruit candidates with the skills and qualifications that match the position requirements. Candidates are hired from various countries. For Teaching Positions candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in the subject area from an accredited university, have current/valid registration with the Ministry of Education or possess a valid teaching certificate from abroad. A Bachelor of Education or equivalent is preferred. We require at least two years of recent, full time classroom teaching experience at school level of vacancy. International experience or experience in a North American system is preferred. Training and experience teaching at an IB school at level of vacancy is preferred. For overseas hires we hire singles and/or teaching couples with or without children. Dependent children are permitted to attend the school at reduced rates. All dependents must meet the entrance requirements.

Director of Admission and Enrollment Management

The International School of Port of Spain is the preferred choice for families seeking an international education for their child/children in Trinidad & Tobago.

The Director of Admission and Enrollment Management is responsible for the overall direction of student and family recruitment, enrollment, re-enrollment, and the fulfillment of admission goals. The Director of Admission and Enrollment Management envisions, plans, and executes all processes designed to grow and sustain mission appropriate student enrollment and re-enrollment outcomes. The Director coordinates all recruitment efforts to attract and retain local and international students representing the school in both the internal and external markets. This position is a part of the School’s Leadership Team, and works in close partnership to ensure that interrelated initiatives are aligned with the school’s strategic plan and continuous improvement goals. This position reports to the School’s Director.

Qualifications
·       Has bachelor's degree plus 10–15 years in educational administration or related field and/or 5-years’ experience in private-independent school admission

·       Has working knowledge of achievement, aptitude, and diagnostic testing of students

·       Is adept at communicating the school’s story to various constituencies

MIDDLE SCHOOL/HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

The Principal has overall responsibility for initiating and leading significant enhancements and continual improvements in teaching and learning across the grades within his/her Division. The Principal examines and assesses current classroom practices, and encourages, inspires, and guides faculty in their ongoing efforts to provide an outstanding 21st century education to all students. Staying ahead of the curve, and being highly knowledgeable about leading edge education research, the Principal is a mentor, resource, and support for faculty and for senior administrators throughout the school community. The Principal is a member of the senior leadership team, reporting to the Director.

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least five years’ experience in a similar administrative position
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, a Master's degree in Educational Administration preferred
  • At least 5 years’ experience administering the IB Middle Years Programme
  • Knowledge/experience working in and/or with Professional Learning Communities, Concept-based Curriculum, Inquiry-Based Learning and Project Based Learning
  • Deep knowledge and proven experience with MYP and AP programs
  • Demonstrated success in leading educational change

 

HEAD LIBRARIAN

As a member of staff the Head Librarian must address such issues as strategic planning, curriculum planning, technology integration, budget development and maintenance, and daily managerial functions of the Library/Media Centre. The Librarian must participate at all levels of curriculum planning, from grade-level and subject area standards and benchmarks to the planning and execution of units of study.

Ongoing collaboration with the Director, School Principals, and teachers is essential to the effectiveness of the Library Media programme.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master of Library Science Degree (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) Degree
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar position
  • Ability to instruct and manage student behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Substitute Teachers for Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12

 

Job Summary:

ISPS is looking for energetic and motivated substitute teachers to work with students at all levels and in different subjects, pre-kindergarten to high school. Science, English and Maths teachers are especially welcomed. A Substitute Teacher at ISPS maintains the regular instructional and classroom management processes for teachers who may be absent for a day or longer periods of time. They are administratively supervised by the relevant Principal and are expected to work harmoniously with staff and students. The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and be able to make learning a comfortable and meaningful experience.

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor of Education or Bachelor’s degree in a specific subject area from an accredited university 

  • Current/valid registration with the Ministry of Education or possesses a valid teaching certificate from abroad would be an asset

  • Computer literate

  • Must be available to work Monday through Friday.

  • Must be willing to accept placements in Elementary and/or High schools in all grades within a specified subject.

  • At least one year of recent, full time classroom teaching experience 

  • Experience teaching the IB PYP and/or MYP curriculum would be an asset

  • Working knowledge of Skyward, PowerSchool and/or Google Classroom

  • Experience in Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL), Project-Based Learning (PBL) and 21st Century Education would be an asset

Life at ISPS

ISPS offers the opportunity of working in a supportive, professional setting. Professional Development is of paramount importance to us and all of our staff are exposed on an on-going basis to professional development.

Our Parent Teacher Organization plays an active part in the School and during the year a series of activities/surprises are hosted by the PTO for our staff.

The School year kicks off with a week long orientation for all staff. This is planned one week prior to the official start of School and culminates with a “lime” at the Director’s home. Our new hires coming from abroad usually arrive two weeks before School starts and are treated to a “special” orientation centered around getting acclimatized to Trinidad & Tobago.

During the year the School is a buzz of various activities; from coffee mornings, curriculum nights, International Week, CAISSA and Carnival week. International week usually begins with the Parade of Nations Assembly and ends with the fantastic International Food Festival. This event is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to get together and to learn about the cuisine and cultures that characterize our international community. We usually host CAISSA once a year. During the Carnival season many activities are planned and culminates with a Carnival parade.
