The International School of Port of Spain (ISPS) is a private, co-educational, independent day school offering 400+ students a challenging international curriculum from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12. Our school welcomes students from over 30 countries and we take pride in our multicultural, truly international community.
Founded in 1994, ISPS is structured on a US curriculum model with three school divisions, Elementary (Pre-K to Grade 5), Middle (Grades 6-8) and High (Grades 9-12). ISPS is accredited by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and Advanced Ed. This accreditation enables all graduating students to earn a US High School Diploma, as well as take advantage of the opportunity to earn US college credits through our US College Board Advanced Placement (AP) courses. AP courses challenge students with first year university level course content, motivating students to succeed well before they enter their university of choice. Our excellent academic results are consistently above world average. * Graduates from ISPS have been accepted by prestigious colleges and universities worldwide.
ISPS is also authorized to offer International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes by the International Baccalaureate organization. These are globally respected programmes which focus on the whole child to develop students as lifelong learners with a global perspective. Students in Pre-K through Grade 5 follow the inquiry-based Primary Years Program (PYP). Grades 6-10 follow the Middle Years Programme (MYP), a multi-disciplinary programme that provides a broad and balanced approach to teaching and learning that allows students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world.
ISPS students receive a challenging academic education in Mathematics, Science, Language and Literature, Social Science and the Arts. We strive for passion in learning, but we also encourage balance and the importance of teamwork. Our students enjoy a wide range of co-curricular activities with excellent facilities and resources. ISPS offers an active sports program which includes competitive play in volleyball, basketball and soccer. We further develop our students as engaged global citizens by requiring community service in Trinidad and elsewhere. We also offer travel programs for study in a foreign language, performance and exhibition opportunities in the Arts, and the potential to build new skills in areas such as debating. This multidisciplinary and multidimensional core academic program in a context of multi curricular offerings builds students’ academic, personal, emotional and intellectual skills. Our graduates leave as confident and passionate learners, eager to make a difference in the wider world and motivated to shape their community.
Each content area has adopted curriculum standards which convey the educational requirements in each subject area at each grade level that students are expected to learn and teachers are expected to teach.
Our evaluation system allows parents to monitor the daily activities of their children. Through the Skyward website, parents can check absences, the result of each evaluation and reports on the performance of their child. Besides enabling the monitoring of school results, Skyward is an ongoing direct communication channel between parents and teachers.
