Library Policies

Operating Hours:
  • The Library is open from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm  on all regular school days.
  • All students are required to sign in the student log book when entering the library after 2:15pm.
  • Students may use the library for reading, research and study any time during the school day, individually, in small groups and in classes.

Class use:

  • Kinder through third grade students have a weekly scheduled Library class.
  • Grade four through grade twelve visit the Library as needed, on a flexible basis. Teachers sign up classes in advance at the Circulation Desk to reserve computers or the A/V room.

Loans:

  • Students may borrow up to four items at a time.
  • All books, magazines and AV materials are to be checked out before they leave the library, this includes magazines which are to be signed out in the binder at the desk.
  • A two-week checkout period is allowed for books, one week for magazines.
  • No fines are charged for overdue books, but no student is permitted additional checkouts until overdue books are returned.
  • Replacement costs are charged for lost or damaged books, and grade reports are withheld if students have overdue books or charges at the end of any term.

General:

  • The Reference Collection remains in the library, but a photocopier is provided free of charge for single copies of library reference materials. Teachers may check out reference material over night.
  • There are also printers for student use of the networked databases, but students are encouraged to take notes rather than making unnecessary copies. ISPS is an environmentally conscious school and we appreciate students using our resources with care.
  • TV/VCR sign up/reservation sheets are posted in the library above the card catalog. Teachers are encouraged to sign up at least one day in advance to assure availability of equipment.
  • While students are not permitted to take videocassettes out of the library, areas have been set aside for student use of videos for special projects.
  • Instructional equipment such as overhead projectors, cassette players and CD players may be checked out for long term classroom use.
  • Other specialized equipment, such as, video cameras, slide projectors, multimedia projectors, and digital cameras are provided on request.
  • Students must file a signed agreement for acceptable use with the Technology Department. Any improper use will result in loss of Internet privileges.

The staff in the library are: Ms. Debbie Jacobs - Librarian,  Ms. Nicha Cassiram and Ms.  Ami Aqui - Library Assistants
