Ask Dr. Math
This is a question and answer service that is directed to K-12 math students and teachers. There is an archive of questions that have been asked previously that can be searched by level and topic, with a direct link to the elementary school archive (http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/drmath.elem.html), and a FAQ link. This site is a part of Math Forum, a research and educational enterprise of Drexel University .


Eisenhower Clearinghouse

An incredible online resource that is a K-12 math and science teacher center, “The Eisenhower National Clearinghouse for Mathematics and Science Education (ENC) is located at the Ohio State University , and is funded through a contract with the U.S Department of Education.” This resource is a must for all teachers of math and science. Lists of web links arranged by topic that are connected to math also can e found directly (http://www.enc.org/weblinks/math/)


Math Forum

Hosted by Drexel University , an all encompassing resource with much content. “Teachers2Teachers”can be directly linked (http://www.mathforum.org/t2t/) and arranges content by grade level (scroll down the page to the blue box).

Learning Math  

AAA Math
What will you find at AAA Math? “Hundreds of pages of basic Math Skills,” “Interactive practice on Every Page”, “An Explanation of the Math Topic on Each Page”, “Several Challenge Games on Every Page,” and “Math Problems Randomly Created.” The resources are arranged by grade level from kindergarten to grade eight. They also can be located by using the list of math topics on the home page. A FAQ list is included along with an index and glossary.  

Create a Graph
What a cool site! This resource provides the user with the ability to create printable bar graphs, pie charts, line graphs, or area charts by using the colors and values of one’s choosing. With good instructions included about using this resource, even upper elementary students can use the visuals they create to enhance reports.  

Discovery School’s Webmath
Lots of links to homework help for math problems.  

Flashcards for Kids
Some of the resources here are free and some require a $10.00 membership. It’s worth a visit to explore the resources available. Create your own set of flashcards by using the products at the site.  

Harcourt School of Publishers Math Glossary
Certainly worth a visit! This is a visual glossary by grade level of the math terms that are introduced in Harcourt texts from grades K-6. Some of the “visual definitions require the installation of Shockwave. For students who may learn math terminology best with visuals, this is a terrific source.  

Math League Help Resources
A great site for grades four to eight in defining math terminology. One of the topics included is fractions (direct link: http://www.mathleague.com/help/fractions/fractions.htm).
 

Multnomah County Public Library: Homework Center
Still our favorite homework site on the Web, Multnomah’s site includes the following areas that would be of interest to K-8 math educators: Mathematics Megasites; Mathematician Biographies; Problem Solving, Puzzles, Quizzes and Flashcards; and Unit Conversions.

Education World: Math
This link is only to the “math” page of Educational World. Extensive links and original articles/lesson plans regarding math can be found at this site. Education world is an essential resource overall for teachers to know about which is subtitles “The Educator’s Best Friend”.

Math Month in the Library (Carol Otis Hurst)
Announce your very own “math month” in the library media center and use some of the activities, ideas and children’s books suggested in Hurst ’s article. Geared to primary grades.  

PBS Teacher Source: Math
Lots of lesson plans, activities, and links are provided at PBS Teacher Resource. All of the materials at the site connect to PBS programming. Search the site by level or by topic.

“An Internet service for mathematics teachers and students from kindergarten to grade twelve – a meeting place for teachers to share resources; a service to teachers, students and parents who may need an answer to a mathematical question; and a facility to allow teachers to carry on a dialogue amongst themselves.” (Also available in French.)
