Welcome To Middle School

Middle School Teachers    Profile    Standards And Benchmarks   Courses

Dear Parents & Students,

Welcome to the Middle School at the International School of Port of Spain. We provide a learning community specially designed to meet the developmental needs of young adolescents in sixth, seventh and eighth grades.  We are a small and nurturing school with approximately 115 students.

Our programs are diverse in nature, and structured to be challenging, while giving each student opportunities to succeed.  The Middle School offers integrated programs through which teachers bring curricula together teaching concepts, skills and content around a specific theme. An integrated curriculum is a way for students to make connections to the real world beyond a subject area focus.

These connections with the local community and environment are made stronger through field studies and community service projects.  The highlight of each year is the outdoor education experience where students spend three to four days experiencing in the great outdoors.

Like many other schools globally, we offer a standards-based programme.  Already our instruction and assessment are linked to our standards. This year we will be issuing reports that show how students are progressing towards meeting those standards. These reports will give more information on a student’s strengths and weaknesses than can be conveyed with a single grade.

A partnership between the home and school is also vital for a student’s success. It is important for families to know what goes on at ISPS. We encourage communication between school and home.  Ensure that you are on our Middle School e-mail list and that you read the school’s weekly newsletter. Our handbook is designed to serve as a guideline for questions that may arise throughout the year.

Please contact me at asolozano@isps.edu.tt if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Alicia Solozano
